Greeting of Dr. Dietlind Tiemann, Member of the German Bundestag

For many years, as Lord Mayoress, I have put my whole heart and soul into the gradual modernization and expansion of our beautiful natural regatta course on the Beetzsee in Brandenburg.

Thanks to the joint commitment of local and regional water sports clubs and associations and extensive financial support from the city and the Federal State of Brandenburg, it has been possible to develop the traditional sports facility into an ultra-modern competition venue, which is now one of the top addresses for fascinating sporting events.

With their European title battles in 2018, the dragon boat athletes will continue the series of major international championships that have been held regularly and with great success in Brandenburg an der Havel since 2005.

I have repeatedly participated in smaller competitions in the past as a member of a dragon boat team.

That’s why I know exactly how much strength, endurance, coordination and team spirit is required to quickly move the exceptionally large and extremely colourful boats towards the finish line.

Anyone who was even able to pull the paddle through the water to the rhythm of the drum or experience the special fascination of this popular sport from the grandstand, will never let go of the Dragon Boat Fever.

The coming European Championships will contribute to further strengthening the image of dragon boat athletes.

After all, what used to be a pure fun and leisure sport has now become an internationally recognised and respected competition discipline. This will also be evident in August 2018 in Brandenburg an der Havel.

I wish all participants every success, the spectators exciting decisions and the guests from near and far a pleasant stay in my beautiful hometown.

Greetings of the Lord Mayor of the City of Brandenburg an der Havel

For our water sports city, it is a great pleasure and honor to be the host of the European Championships in 2018. We are looking forward to welcoming the Dragon Boat Elite of our continent. The members of the great European dragon boat family is already in advance our warm welcome.

There are several good reasons why the responsible persons of the European Dragon Boat Federation decided to organize this sport highlight in Brandenburg an der Havel.

With our “Beetzsee” natural regatta course, we are not only able to provide a highly modern and competition-proven sports facility that meets the highest international requirements in terms of technology, equipment and infrastructure. We also have a very experienced team on site. Supported by city and country as well as sponsors and numerous volunteers, it has successfully prepared and carried out numerous national title fights as well as world and European Championships in various canoe sports in the past. And of course the enthusiastic and fair Brandenburg spektators as well as the cosmopolitan and hospitable atmosphere speak for our city as the host of the European Dragon Boat Championships 2018.

On behalf of the people of Brandenburg, I invite you to celebrate a great festival of sport and international understanding here in Brandenburg an der Havel in August 2018. We are looking forward to your visit!
